Parody Examples

A parody, also called spoof, is an imitative work created to mock, comment on or trivialize an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of satiric or ironic imitation. Parody has been a part of contemporary culture for centuries. Whether in literature, theater, film or art, rarely does a day go by when an example of a parody is not widely visible. Many people see it as a form of ridicule, while others revere it as the highest form of flattery.

Popular films such as "Scary Movie", "Police Academy", and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" use parodies that are easily recognizable come from the contemporary film genre, along with sketch comedy shows like MadTV and Saturday Night Live. Another medium serving up parody is music. American singer and songwriter, Weird Al Yankovic, made a career out of his parodies of Pop music in the 1980s. Parody is often confused with satire. Although parody can be used to develop satire, it differs from satire to a certain extent. Parody is a kind of comedy that imitates and mocks individuals or a piece of work. However, when it mingles with satire, it makes satire more pointed and effective. Most importantly, a parody appeals to the reader's sense of humor. Thus, parody adds spice to a piece of literature that keeps the readers interested.
